Brutally Honest! Game Reviews and News

A Game About Gaming History

Ebuyer.com has developed an interesting game that takes the player through the history of all seven generations of gaming consoles.  The online game, Odyssey, is a run and jump platform game in which the player attempts to collect as many consoles as possible.  The game progresses through seven levels representing the seven generations of consoles.

There are 102 consoles to collect, most of which the younger generations have never heard of and even some the old-timers never have ( like the Action Max and Sega Pic).  As you collect the consoles, they are added to an inventory that you can later review to learn more about the history of that particular console.

odyssey-online-01Stuart Carlisle, Managing Director from Ebuyer commented: “We’re all gamers at heart and we all remember the amazing consoles from our childhood. At the same time, we’re excited about the innovative new Xbox One and PS4, so we wanted to create something special to celebrate everything we love about console gaming. We want players to be able to have fun with Odyssey and at the same time learn more about the history of gaming.”

“We’ve been having a lot of fun playing it around the office, and I have to say that we’ve got quite good at it. We’re looking forward to seeing whether players around the world can match up to our skills and collect every console.”

So, I challenge all of you young whippersnappers out there to head over to the Ebuyer website to play Odyssey.  It may help you appreciate the history of gaming and realize how far we’ve come in such a short period of time.  Since I was never any good at the platform games (my favorites were games like Galaga, Missle Command and Diddy Kong Racing), Odyssey was a challenge for me.  But going through that challenge, I was able to reminisce about all the great games and consoles of the past.

Now get on over there and play:  http://www.ebuyer.com/odyssey
