This week, at the Game Developers Conference, Valve announced that their new Source 2 engine will be free for anyone who wants to use it. The catch is, the games developed with the Source 2 engine will have to be sold on Steam, but not exclusively. This means that Valve will earn at least 30% of the profit these games earn.
The Source 2 engine may also suggest a whole new line of Valve games will be released such as Half-Life 3, Left 4 Dead 3, Portal 3, and a new Counter-Strike. Valve, however; did not announce any such games at this conference.
Along with the Source 2 engine news, Valve gave more information on Steam Machines, the Steam Controller, and the new Virtual Reality Headset. The Steam Controller and the VR Headset will be released in November 2015.
