Did Microsoft improve on the Xbox 360 enough to win the console wars? Will the Xbox One win the hearts of Playstation fan-boys? I think many people want the answers to these questions to be yes, but does Microsoft deserve your money for this next-gen console?
When you first open the box, you will notice that the Xbox One is rather large for a next-gen console. Without measuring, you can tell that it is bigger than the PS3, PS4, and Xbox 360. This might be annoying for some because of space issues.
One thing that Microsoft claimed to fix in their new console, is the Red Ring of Death which was a major problem for some people on the Xbox 360. One thing I am concerned about is the infamous disc scratching in the previous console. This occurred when you moved your Xbox 360 console while a game was being played which resulted in the game getting scratched. I hoped they fixed this in the Xbox One, but I don’t want to find out the hard way.
Xbox Live Gold is, of course, not free, but I wish it was, just like everyone else. The cost is not the only problem. I have a feeling that Microsoft has focused too much on TV, music, and movies and a little less on what really matters: gaming. There are plenty of apps on Xbox Live for music, TV, sports, and movies that truly make it the all in one console.
The graphics on the console seem pretty impressive. They are definitely better than the Xbox 360’s graphics, but they do not surpass the PC’s high-definition. The PS4 visuals come very close to the Xbox One’s and it may be hard to tell which is better.
The new Kinect has to be mentioned. It is the reason this console costs $500 instead of $400. The new Kinect has many more features than the Playstation camera. The Xbox One interface can be controlled with the Kinect and many games include the Kinect. The new Kinect recognizes faces and is said to switch profiles if you hand the controller to another player. This is an awesome feature and I hope they include this in some games.
Overall, I think the Xbox One fixed some problems with the Xbox 360, and thankfully Microsoft scratched some of the stupid ideas they were planning earlier this year. The controller is nearly the same, but the console itself has had some improvements. Before you buy a PS4 or an Xbox One, take a look at the pros and cons of both. If you don’t care for the features of the Kinect, go with the PS4 and save a $100. If you want a full gaming and media experience pay the $500 and get the Xbox One. It’s your choice.
